My First Attempt at Depotting MAC Eyeshadows

I know there are a million tutorials on the internet for this exact thing, but I thought I'd share my experience with my followers! I also know I can't be the only person who had never done this before, so maybe someone will find this useful.

You'll need:

  • A knife
  • A lighter/candle
  • Tweezers or some kind of grip
  • Magnetic stickers (if wanted)
  • Somewhere to store your eyeshadows once their depotted

Step 1: You'll see a small line where the eyeshadow sits inside of the pot. This is where you want to wiggle the knife around until the eyeshadow pops out!
Step 2: Using the tweezers, hold the eyeshadow over a flame until the plastic on the bottom is slightly melted.
Once the bottom is melted slightly, you'll poke the shadow out of the bottom of the pot!
Step 3: Let the bottoms of the shadows cool before placing the magnetic stickers on them. I skipped this step for now, but I plan to go back later and add them!
Step 4: Place the eyeshadows in their new case and you're done!
Hope this helped somebody! What eyeshadows do you have in your palette?

xo, Katie

    1. I know! Some people told me not to because I could take the chance on seriously messing my shadows up but after doing this I'm wondering "how could I have messed that up?!"

  10. I prefer carrying eyeshadows in palettes, it saves so much space! I do a similar method but use a flat iron with parchment paper over the plates.

  11. You did good! I think it's handy carrying all your colours together like these, especially since they work really well together.

  12. Nice! I tried this method and my hand isn't steady so I would wonder I would drop it in the candle lol. I've been using the flat iron method...it takes longer but works well! PS) Make sure you save those empty mac containers...back 2 mac...you can get a free item!! :)
